Mother Nigeria is searching for those who can take actions. We do not need sleepers, we need action takers. Unfortunately, many are in the category of the sleepers. This piece is to serve as an eye-opener to those who are sleeping amongst the youths of this generation that a lot must be done to salvage the future of this country. In life, there are people who must be pushed to do things while there are those who do not need to be pushed. The present crop of leaders have failed woefully, however, it must be said that the present generation of leaders failed woefully because there were no early signals to lead them to the right path, they also did not take conscious efforts to lead themselves to the right path.

While this piece is not to dwell on the problems of the past and the current problems, it is to check what can be done to salvage the future. Truth be told, there is no perfect leader in the world, but there are leaders who have put their nation first. The problem of the current Nigerian state is that of ‘ethnocracy’- a system wherein the leaders are only concerned about the ethnic region where they are from. However, these leaders of the past were not entirely saints as some of them have been painted to be, but one thing that spells the difference between them and the current crop of leaders is that in spite of their personal idiosyncrasies, they still had a nationalist approach. Going down the history lane, Nigeria in its real sense is not the product of a real desire for a serious political institution it only came about as a result of the resilience and education of some of the leaders of the past. Nigeria, our dear land that has survived one hundred years of unholy matrimony is currently being faced with challenges that beg to ask if this unholy matrimony is not heading for the divorce walls. The present state of the Nigerian nation is one that begs for attention into the lit walls of the past, consider our dark present and check if there is hope for a bright future. Not only have we entered into a dramatic situation, we have entered into the phase of emotionless display of inhumanity. The dilemma of the Nigerian state is not one that the writings of a writer can conveniently expound, for the present day realities of a citizen encompasses the traumatic state of the Nigerian nation. Where are those who will make the change……………. The innocent souls are crying, the girls are wailingįor my soul cries…where are the sons of mother Nigeria? Now dawning on me like the dawn of the day THE NIGERIAN DILEMMA: A FAILED STATE AND THE HOPE FOR THE FUTURE
